Earth-friendly Products in Earth-friendly Containers
Sustainable packaging is much more than simply recyclable packaging. It is about being beneficial, safe and healthy for individuals and communities throughout its life cycle — from production to disposal or reuse. This means it's created using responsible energy sources and takes into account both economic viability and consumer behavior. Recyclable packages, for example, are of no value if recycling programs are too expensive to implement. Biodegradable materials don't do any good if they aren't disposed of in a way that allows them to biodegrade, which oftentimes they aren't.
That is why we focus on creating and using package that is Earth-friendly, user-friendly and economically viable. To meet our criteria for performance and cost, our goal is to have our packaging meet the following guidelines. It should:
- Be sourced, manufactured, transported and recycled using renewable energy
- Maximize the use of renewable or recycled source materials
- Be manufactured using clean production technologies and best practices
- Be made from materials that are healthy in all probable end-of-life scenarios
- Be physically designed to optimize materials and energy
- Use the highest quantities possible of materials that can be recycled or re-used
