Max Gravitt - Senior Manager, Business Applications
When Max joined Burt's Bees in 2005, he wanted to work in a challenging, fast-paced environment and be part of an exciting company on the leading edge of earth-sensitive business practices. Well, he got his wish. And it doesn't hurt that, according to Max, the products rock, too.
For Max, working here brings new and exciting challenges every day. "The energy always seems to galvanize at the right times in the right ways to overcome these challenges and deliver more of our products to more of our consumers. I also love seeing the response when I tell a new friend where I work."
Max describes the culture at Burt's Bees as vibrant and authentic. "We celebrate our roots and history, but we never let it hold us back from new opportunities to improve and innovate," he says. He also likes that the culture appreciates that great ideas can come from anywhere in the organization.
One great idea Max had recently outside of work was to replace his gas-guzzler with a bicycle. "I wasn't sure how life would be without a car, but it turned out great. I'm proud of my contribution to reduced carbon emissions, and it has actually been convenient to combine my workout with my commute. I've even cycled to happy hour after a tough day." His next step is to take advantage of Burt's Bees' corporate Eco-benefits and purchase renewable energy credits to offset his energy usage at home.
At one time, Max was actively involved with Sierra Club, but his latest non-profit organization of choice is the Challenged Athlete's Foundation. The organization raises money to help people with physical disabilities pursue an active lifestyle through physical fitness and competitive athletics. Max says that as he's gotten older, he's realized what an important role fitness and athletics have played in his life. "This impact should not be minimized for those with disabilities. Anyone with a desire to be active should have the means, and CAF makes this possible."
And speaking of being active, Max is no couch potato in his free time. On nights and weekends, you'll most likely find him either hiking or training for his next endurance race. For him, relaxing means backpacking in the North Carolina mountains or camping at the Outer Banks.
Max's favorite Burt's Bees product: Baby Bee Diaper Ointment. Surprising, since Max doesn't have any kids. "I actually use it as a preventative measure. I apply it to sensitive areas before long cycling rides or runs to make sure that chaffing doesn't hold me back. It's never failed."
